In every crowd there has to be one oddball. That rule holds true with us five drunk rednecks. We all more or less agree that most radio talk show hosts are shills for one group or other and almost all ended up on the radio because they couldn't get a real job. Sort of along the lines of "those who can, do; those who can't, teach", radio talk show hosts can be defined as "those who can, work; those who can't grab a mic and talk about it." Jury Reform Proposed Changes

In a previous post , I stated we need jury selection reform. The process, as is, treats every prospective juror as a criminal before the prospective juror has even balked at serving. The initial summons is sent with ample warning that failure to comply could result in fines and possible jail time. Just how receptive should our government people expect a prospective juror to be when right off the bat they are sternly warning and threatening the prospective juror with fines and jail time? And since the summons is sent regular mail, how can the government people threaten a prospective juror with fines and jail time when they don't even know the prospective juror received the summons? Business 101: don't threaten a customer with the first contact. Offer them options. That is a lesson almost every government employee didn't pay attention to in their Business 101 class. Open Season on Cats

Judge Milian of the People's Court issued a bonehead decision. She wins Bonehead of the Month, which puts her in the running for Bonehead of the Year. She can relax, though. I'm sure Trump will win Bonehead of the Year hands down. The case she ruled on revolved around a cat that "accidentally got out of the house," as the sweet little old lady claimed, and jumped into the neighbor's fenced in yard. The neighbor's dog attacked the intruding cat, killing it. The sweet little old lady, who wasn't so sweet once she began talking, claimed her neighbor owed her a new cat. The dog owner countersued for the almost four hundred bucks he owed in vet bills after the attack. Judge Milian ruled against the plaintiff saying the neighbor's dog was in its fenced in yard and wasn't roaming free. After taking a nine day hiatus from tweeting, Trump, our so-called president, returned from his European trip of embarrassing America to embarrass himself on Twitter. Simply embarrassing. Ok, maybe flippancy isn't the way to make a point, but how can anyone take the hoopla made over Trump's tweet seriously, the tweet where he invented a new word, covfefe? After all, Trump, himself, tweeted a joke about it the next morning. “Who can figure out the true meaning of ‘covfefe’??? Enjoy!” he tweeted. That evening, Hillary Clinton followed Trump's joke with one of her own. "People in covfefe houses shouldn't throw covfefe," she tweeted in response to Trump's tweet denigrating her for blaming everyone except herself for her presidential bid loss. He lives on the other side of The Bridge, yet he insists on sticking his nose in Talbot's business. Susan Monday, our local talk show radio host and honorary Drunk Redneck (whether she wanted the title or not) is moving on up - and not just to the east side, but statewide and then some. Her show, The Susan Monday Show , still airs live out of Lewes, DE on WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio 9:00 am until noon, but is also simulcast on sister station WDEL 105.7 (FM) and WDEL 1150 (AM) . A few weeks ago, I met with Delegate Adams to talk about my ideas for jury reform. For everyone who has been following my saga of jury reform for the last two years or so, yes, meeting with Delegate Adams is a big deal. I admit, I'm remiss on knowing who all of my elected officials are. It's a good day for me if I remember my boss's name and can put that name to the right face. Apparently Delegate Adams won the 2014 midterm elections since he assumed his current role in Jan 2015. I vote in every election so most likely I voted for him because I didn't know anything about any of the candidates running that year and party line voting is what I usually do when I know nothing of the candidates on the ballot. I'm Not Getting a COVID Vaccine...

Estimated read time: 11 minutes ...and I don't have to tell you why Ok, I'll be honest. By the time I finish writing this article, I might hop in my car and go get a shot. I might wait until tomorrow. Or next week. Or next fall. There's a thought. When I get a flu shot next fall, I'll kill two birds with one stone and get the COVID shot, too. At this point, the experts don't know if the COVID vaccine provides a lifetime of protection or if we'll need to have an annual booster shot like we do for the flu, so what's the rush to get a shot right now? For the last year, we've been told to stay six feet apart, avoid crowds, wash hands, and wear a mask. Where Did Susan Monday Go?

For Susan Monday listeners and fans, SuMo (as they affectionately call her) has been conspicuously absent from the WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio lineup. One day she's there. The next she's gone. No one dared speak her name. It's as if the new station owners wanted her wiped clean from everyone's memories. Since writing Goodbye to WXDE , the owners in Pennsylvania sold the station to Lord knows who and who really cares anyway. I stand by everything I wrote in that article. WXDE has become another divisive talk platform for racists and bigots and nothing more. That's one of the reasons why I don't link the station. Sumo didn't belong in the new mix. Are you a hole in your community's leaky bucket?

When our business leaders, planners, and politicians look at ways to revitalize local towns and rural areas, the usual proposed solutions are to find ways to bring more money into the community. Typical approaches to bringing in money involve promoting tourism, agriculture, corporate relocations and other forms of inward investments. What is often overlooked is the important concept of money flow within the community. Think of your local economy as a bucket and bringing in money to your community is like pouring water in the bucket. The bucket is going to have some holes in it and some of the water will leak out. Some of the holes can’t be fixed so you will always have a leaky bucket. The state and federal government will collect taxes, for example. Those are holes that can’t be fixed.
