Politics, over the last ten years, has become a sport of republicans versus democrats. The players are pumped up on viagra and estrogen (and probably a lot of pain killers) to fool themselves into believing they have the edge they had over forty years ago when they played real sports drug free. For those of us on the sidelines watching the game, we've become bored and frustrated. Steroids don't work in young people's sports; why do old people think their steroids will work for their game? Governor Hogan thinks the old people's steroids will up his game. His latest television ad has him standing behind a podium or onstage or somewhere talking about another candidate. He invoked the "she sided with Democrats...." and similar rhetoric. The implication of the ad is that anyone who sides with a Democrat on any issue is a bad person because, by inference, Democrats are bad people. In one sentence, Hogan ridiculed 55% of Maryland registered voters....

Over five years ago, I wrote an open letter to then President Obama calling him out on his comments about the George Zimmerman case. George Zimmerman, if you recall, was the neighborhood watch guy who killed a Black teen. A jury later found Zimmerman not guilty of all charges. President Obama held a press conference urging all Americans to do some "soul searching," a directive obviously meant only for White people. In my letter, I challenged President Obama by exposing his racism. Oddly, President Obama displayed the same sort of bigotry most people accuse Trump of on almost a daily basis. President Obama tried and convicted Zimmerman, blamed the court system for systemic racism, and made sweeping generalizations about the racist tendencies of White people. One decision residents need to make is who will replace Vance Phillips (R) on the County Council - Rob Arlett (R) or Bob Wheatley (D). Dear President Obama: In response to your press conference today regarding the George Zimmerman case, you are correct - we all need to do some soul searching, but not by the side of the coin you implied during your press conference. Let me suggest the following: The executive branch (that's currently you and your administration) and the legislative branch (that's Congress) have no business sticking their noses in most state issues. The Zimmerman case was one such issue. The Justin Carter case in Texas is an example of where the federal government did have reason to voice an opinion on a state issue, but chose not to. President Obama, against all odds, led this country out of the Great Recession and set this country on a path to prosperity. He redefined healthcare and got millions more people insured that the old insurance industry would've refused to cover. He brought equality and equal protection to millions more by integrating the Armed Forces for gay people and paved the way for the eventual Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage. Talbot Boys Isn't Honoring The Confederacy

He lives on the other side of The Bridge, yet he insists on sticking his nose in Talbot's business. A few weeks ago, I met with Delegate Adams to talk about my ideas for jury reform. For everyone who has been following my saga of jury reform for the last two years or so, yes, meeting with Delegate Adams is a big deal. I admit, I'm remiss on knowing who all of my elected officials are. It's a good day for me if I remember my boss's name and can put that name to the right face. Apparently Delegate Adams won the 2014 midterm elections since he assumed his current role in Jan 2015. I vote in every election so most likely I voted for him because I didn't know anything about any of the candidates running that year and party line voting is what I usually do when I know nothing of the candidates on the ballot. I'm Not Getting a COVID Vaccine...

I might wait until tomorrow. Or next week. Or next fall. There's a thought. When I get a flu shot next fall, I'll kill two birds with one stone and get the COVID shot, too. At this point, the experts don't know if the COVID vaccine provides a lifetime of protection or if we'll need to have an annual booster shot like we do for the flu, so what's the rush to get a shot right now? For Susan Monday listeners and fans, SuMo (as they affectionately call her) has been conspicuously absent from the WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio lineup. One day she's there. The next she's gone. No one dared speak her name. It's as if the new station owners wanted her wiped clean from everyone's memories. Since writing Goodbye to WXDE , the owners in Pennsylvania sold the station to Lord knows who and who really cares anyway. I stand by everything I wrote in that article. Are you a hole in your community's leaky bucket?

When our business leaders, planners, and politicians look at ways to revitalize local towns and rural areas, the usual proposed solutions are to find ways to bring more money into the community. Typical approaches to bringing in money involve promoting tourism, agriculture, corporate relocations and other forms of inward investments. What is often overlooked is the important concept of money flow within the community. Think of your local economy as a bucket and bringing in money to your community is like pouring water in the bucket. The bucket is going to have some holes in it and some of the water will leak out. Some of the holes can’t be fixed so you will always have a leaky bucket. The state and federal government will collect taxes, for example. Those are holes that can’t be fixed.
