In case you haven't noticed, Hollywood is recycling the glory days of the past with reboots after reboots.  If it isn't reboots, it's an original movie franchised into parts numbering...well some of them numbering more than the fingers I have to count them on. Music, though, is fresh and new, right? No. Surprisingly, music is an industry built on covers that only sound new to the younger generation it is marketed for.  A lot of songs you may have heard aren't original at all.  Let's test your music knowledge with this simple, ten question quiz. Christmas is over and somehow we all survived the shopping, family visits, and Grandma's homemade fruitcake.   Miracles of all miracles, though, we survived the incessant and repetitive playing of Christmas carols everywhere we went or on any radio dial we pushed.   Even our childhood favorite carols began to wear thin by the time Christmas Day arrived. Today, I got a late Christmas present from a friend in a political group I sometimes play around in.   He shared his favorite Christmas carol recorded in 1960 by a popular British entertainer, Roy Castle.   If you're like me, you're probably thinking, "Who the heck is Roy Castle?   Never heard of him." "Never talk religion or politics."   Sound rule of etiquette back in 1879, but Ms. Manners' great-great grandma neglected to add one more topic: music.   That may be because of the lack of radio, CDs, and massed produced music back then and she figured the review of the folk singer around the campfire couldn't possibly spark heated discussions. Today, people are generally as passionate about their music as they are about religion and politics.   Naturally, I'll jump right in and declare music dead.   Not just rock-n-roll or country (real country - not the pop, hip hop, and rock styles labeled country now) or any of the other styles people slap a name on to separate their listening tastes from the formulaic mainstream of the same music. I am a very big proponent of the shop local movement.   I've always embraced the local flavors and idiosynchronicities.   Yes, I know idiosynchronicities is a made up word, but if I didn't tell you that, would you have known? - and yet I bet you know what it means. Thanks to mass transportation, mass distribution centers, and mass communications, everything local is being lost to nationalism.   No matter where you go in this country, we all pretty much eat the same tasting food, we all pretty much sound the same, and we all pretty much think the same. Reckon I have to back up a step to ensure we're all on the same page. National companies have grown to dictate our tastes and styles.   KFC sets the standard for fried chicken, Bush's for Boston baked beans, and even Mrs. T's for the poorly imitated Ukrainian dish of perogies.   They have set our style of dress...everything from designer jeans to fashionable footwear.   Wear overalls, suspenders, and ...

Every creative person creates at least one bona fide clunker we all can laugh at.  Creative people hide their clunkers in a closet, sealed in a box, stored in a crack-proof safe so no one will find them.  Let's face it.  Creative people make plenty of mistakes as they hone their craft and even they laugh at some of them. Unfortunately for the creative people, they can rely on a bunch of non-creative drunk rednecks to crack that safe and compile their mistakes in a Top Ten list.  We didn't have to crack a safe to find the top ten songs that should never have been recorded.  Our list is of songs that enjoyed moderate to huge commercial success before the musicians were able to lock them safely away.  That is the true marvel of this list.  Don McLean sang about the day the music died.  These songs surely were the nails in the coffin.
