One Drunk Redneck

One my preferred pronoun. Drunk my preferred first name. Redneck my preferred last name. "Hey you!" works too. Sorry, no book to sell nor podcast to download. Oh yeah. I'm a patriot, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, nephew, cousin, cousin 1st thru nth removed. Probably great-grandfather or close to it. I don't hug people so why should I hug trees?

I don't want to talk to you!

October 05, 2026

estimated read time: 20 minutes If you stop and think about it, what idiot ever thought social media platforms were a good idea? Actually, that's an easy question to answer. I don't think social media designers made their platforms with civility and manners in mind. They made them with profit being the only goal. Get users to tell all about themselves, collect the information, and sell the information to advertisers. Think Mark Zuckerberg and his family of social media platforms that began with Facebook. But that's another article for another day. Many of us act surprised when we post something online, and then someone reacts negatively to it. Somehow, we trick ourselves into believing we have something important to say, others will agree and tell us how wonderful and thoughtful we are, and before you know it, we'll join into a virtual group hug and break into a chorus of Kumbaya. Then we're smacked in the face with reality. Sometimes we type somethin...

White oak or dandelion fluff?

September 14, 2026

About three weeks ago, andy harris posted this on his Facebook Page: "I guess the fake signing ceremony Wes Moore held for the bill might have been a waste of time. At least he was in Maryland that day. " My response: "What's the problem? He's in the sate more than you are on The Shore." Of course harris answered as if he seized upon a gotcha moment: "I live on the Shore. Nice try with the fake news." And my faithful readers, all three of them, already knew I wasn't about to let that nonsense sit unanswered. First, my comment wasn't news, fake or otherwise; it was my sarcastic retort to a sarcastic post. Second, it's the first time harris ever responded directly to me over the last two decades. It was time to get serious and test how he would respond. That meant I had to respond as neutrally as I could while laying out the facts as I understood them. Here was my response: "Thank you for responding. I missed that you sold your ...

Talbot Boys Isn't Honoring The Confederacy

Estimated read time: 10 minutes Maryland's comptroller, Peter Franchot, once again inserted himself in the Talbot Boys debate. He lives on the other side of The Bridge, yet he insists on sticking his nose in Talbot's business. On his FaceBook page, he posted a history revisionist's version of what the Talbot Boys is all about. Below is my reply. "Anyone who has followed my career and my social media accounts knows that Talbot County is one of my favorite places in all of Maryland," wrote Peter Franchot in an opening sentence on his FaceBook page. He then launched into an ill-informed tirade against the Talbot Boys monument in Easton, MD. Maybe the handful of family and friends who have followed his career know Talbot County is one of his favorite places. The rest of us know he's an outsider who has lived a lackluster political career . For born and raised Eastern Shore residents, we scratch our heads wondering why outsiders from the othe...

SuMo isn't just a Monday thing

In every crowd there has to be one oddball. That rule holds true with us five drunk rednecks. We all more or less agree that most radio talk show hosts are shills for one group or other and almost all ended up on the radio because they couldn't get a real job. Sort of along the lines of "those who can, do; those who can't, teach", radio talk show hosts can be defined as "those who can, work; those who can't grab a mic and talk about it." So who is the oddball in our group? Yup, the one who writes 99% of everything you read - me. The other four don't bother themselves with talk radio because they don't want to be bothered with the conservative vs liberal bs, the religious vs atheist make believe, the facts vs conspiracy fiction tales, the "intellectual" vs the "low information" crowd, the...well, you get the picture. I, on the other hand, dabble in talk radio just for the fun of it. This past month and a half, I...

God does not condemn homosexuality

February 04, 2014

Note: This is a response we gave to a post on another blog . We took exception to the often repeated claim that God condemns homosexuality as a sin. While we have provided the link to the blog, we do not recommend it as good, informative, or even entertaining reading. No, God doesn’t call homosexual acts a sin, either. “Man will not lie with man as he does woman” is clearly a reference to a specific act without getting crude about it. Sodom and Gomorrah was a condemnation of our inhospitality towards foreigners, but if one wants the literal sense, it was a condemnation of gay gang rape, and that’s assuming we believe the men didn’t know the strangers were angels. (If they did know the men were angels, then the literal interpretation would be God’s condemnation of bestiality.) Of course, if we took the story at that literal value, then we would have to accept that a gang rape of one’s daughter is perfectly acceptable. We also need to look at the three stor...

Susan Monday: The Fighter Remains?

SuMo's Twitter avatar ...vacation pic or her future destination? The rumors will fly.... For long time listeners of WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio out of Milford, DE, Susan Monday has been a voice of reason over the years and endeared herself to many across Delmarva. Monday through Friday, SuMo, as her loyal listeners and fans called her, both challenged and entertained us. She was always there for three or four hours each day. For awhile, she even manned the mic on a split shift. She was our cup of coffee for two hours in the morning, breaking for an hour at noon so we could catch up on the news, then she was our afternoon tea and biscuits for two more hours. Her shows inspired, riled, entertained, and motivated us. In fact, many of the articles on this blog were a result of her show segments. Delmar Weather Guys

Estimated read time: 10 minutes I don't recall exactly how I learned about the Delmar Weather Guys. In fact, I don't know if the three high school students who built and maintained the Delmar_Weather social media platforms referred to themselves as the Delmar Weather Guys, but it was a nickname I adopted for them whenever I shared their predictions on my social media platforms. I learned of them about four years ago. Mr. Seymore started the Delmar_Weather page back in 2010. (If you love nostalgia, you can still visit his original Facebook page .) Through social media and a shared love for weather (the three didn't go to high school together), Hunter Outten and Kyle eventually joined the page about a year later to become the group I colloquially referred to as the Delmar Weather Guys. Yes, Kyle has a last name, but I'll be danged if I remember it. As of this writing, Kyle has not responded by email to contribute to this article. Don't read t...

Who stole Jason Lee's job?

January 16, 2016

I am a very big proponent of the shop local movement. I've always embraced the local flavors and idiosynchronicities. Yes, I know idiosynchronicities is a made up word, but if I didn't tell you that, would you have known? - and yet I bet you know what it means. Thanks to mass transportation, mass distribution centers, and mass communications, everything local is being lost to nationalism. No matter where you go in this country, we all pretty much eat the same tasting food, we all pretty much sound the same, and we all pretty much think the same. Reckon I have to back up a step to ensure we're all on the same page. National companies have grown to dictate our tastes and styles. KFC sets the standard for fried chicken, Bush's for Boston baked beans, and even Mrs. T's for the poorly imitated Ukrainian dish of perogies. They have set our style of dress...everything from designer jeans to fashionable footwear. Wear overalls, suspenders, and ...

Only time will reveal the true motives of Talbot Boys detractors

December 28, 2015

The flames of anger that drove many to tear down the Confederate flag flying over the SC capitol quickly fanned out, engulfing anything and everything Confederate. The Talbot Boys Memorial in Easton, MD is only one of many battles fought across the state and across the nation to erase anything Confederate from our landscape and our vernacular. The Talbot County Council voted to keep the Talbot Boys Memorial honoring our Confederate soldiers right where it is and provided for the building of an additional monument to honor our Union soldiers who fought brother against brother. Without rehashing all that I have already written, my eight articles linked at the end of this one build the case our boys fought to protect their homes and communities from an increasingly aggressive federal force and most likely never considered slavery as a driving reason to join the Confederacy. The New Yankees fighting the battles to purge anything Confederate today really aren...

Susan Monday moving on up

Susan Monday, our local talk show radio host and honorary Drunk Redneck (whether she wanted the title or not) is moving on up - and not just to the east side, but statewide and then some. Her show, The Susan Monday Show , still airs live out of Lewes, DE on WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio 9:00 am until noon, but is also simulcast on sister station WDEL 105.7 (FM) and WDEL 1150 (AM) . Susan Monday can now be heard all over Delaware as well as parts of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Susan Monday, or SuMo as her fans call her, earned her promotion and larger listening area. No more dollar menu for Ms. Monday. She's moving on up to the exec menu! Oh golly gee, maybe I should refer to her as Ms. Monday out of respect for her accomplishments. Ok, Ms. Monday earned her promotion and larger listening area. If you are a radio talk show listener, and even if you're not, go ahead and cruise your radio dial. You'll be b...

Alien Code

September 06, 2018

Estimated read time: 7 minutes Every once in awhile a movie comes along that leaves you scratching your head. It has to be good because days later, you're still scratching your head trying to make sense of what you saw. When I was a kid, two movies had me scratching my head and, over forty years later, I'm still scratching my head. I don't care how much you might think you understand 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) or A Clockwork Orange (1971), I bet you still scratch your head over some parts of those movies. Alien Code joins the ranks of these head scratching classics. If you like your science fiction movies with aliens made realistic with expert makeup or special effects pulled off with state of the art CGI, Alien Code is not for you. The aliens look like slimmed down aliens I've seen in Twilight Zone (" To Serve Man ") and Lost in Space (" Invaders from the Fifth Dimension "). An explosion is depicted as a fre...

Jury reform may have a sympathetic ear in a genuine statesman

August 20, 2017

A few weeks ago, I met with Delegate Adams to talk about my ideas for jury reform. For everyone who has been following my saga of jury reform for the last two years or so, yes, meeting with Delegate Adams is a big deal. I admit, I'm remiss on knowing who all of my elected officials are. It's a good day for me if I remember my boss's name and can put that name to the right face. Apparently Delegate Adams won the 2014 midterm elections since he assumed his current role in Jan 2015. I vote in every election so most likely I voted for him because I didn't know anything about any of the candidates running that year and party line voting is what I usually do when I know nothing of the candidates on the ballot. Not a drunk redneck, but still a native Eastern Shore man Now that I know who he is, please allow me to introduce him. Delegate Adams is a born and raised Eastern Shore man. That might explain why sitting down and talking with...

I'm Not Getting a COVID Vaccine...

Estimated read time: 11 minutes ...and I don't have to tell you why Ok, I'll be honest. By the time I finish writing this article, I might hop in my car and go get a shot. I might wait until tomorrow. Or next week. Or next fall. There's a thought. When I get a flu shot next fall, I'll kill two birds with one stone and get the COVID shot, too. At this point, the experts don't know if the COVID vaccine provides a lifetime of protection or if we'll need to have an annual booster shot like we do for the flu, so what's the rush to get a shot right now? For the last year, we've been told to stay six feet apart, avoid crowds, wash hands, and wear a mask. The experts usually get the order of importance wrong and stress wearing a mask, first, and then add the other three cautions as an after thought - but the first three rules are rules I have always lived by and believe everyone should live by...every day...pandemic or no ...

Crank (aka Andrew Murr, aka Andrew Martin) returns after a year absence

It's been a bit over a year, but Crank has returned to the radio. He's not Crank. He's not Andrew Murr. No, he comes to us this time as Andrew Martin. You can find Andrew Martin (aka Andrew Murr, aka Crank) over on WXCY New Country on 103.7 FM out of Havre de Grace, MD. Ok, so Crank has gone country to that foreign nation west of the Bay. Dang, he was near his ten year mark of being able to claim himself as a Delmarvan, but he couldn't hang. If he ever comes back, which isn't advisable, it'd take him another ten years before maybe he'll be accepted. Ok, all joking aside. Yes, Crank has been absent from the radio waves for the last year and, no, we have no clue where he was flipping burgers during that time. We assume he was flipping burgers because, based on his expressed sentiments during his WZBH years, he most certainly wasn't collecting unemployment. If you take a gander at his bio over there on ...

Where Did Susan Monday Go?

For Susan Monday listeners and fans, SuMo (as they affectionately call her) has been conspicuously absent from the WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio lineup. One day she's there. The next she's gone. No one dared speak her name. It's as if the new station owners wanted her wiped clean from everyone's memories. Since writing Goodbye to WXDE , the owners in Pennsylvania sold the station to Lord knows who and who really cares anyway. I stand by everything I wrote in that article. WXDE has become another divisive talk platform for racists and bigots and nothing more. That's one of the reasons why I don't link the station. Sumo didn't belong in the new mix. She didn't earn the title of Honorary Drunk Redneck because she fit a mold the station or her listeners wanted her to fit. Did she quit before the station gets any uglier than it has? Was she let go because she was the round peg that didn't fit into the square hole? Did she m...

Are you a hole in your community's leaky bucket?

When our business leaders, planners, and politicians look at ways to revitalize local towns and rural areas, the usual proposed solutions are to find ways to bring more money into the community. Typical approaches to bringing in money involve promoting tourism, agriculture, corporate relocations and other forms of inward investments. What is often overlooked is the important concept of money flow within the community. Think of your local economy as a bucket and bringing in money to your community is like pouring water in the bucket. The bucket is going to have some holes in it and some of the water will leak out. Some of the holes can’t be fixed so you will always have a leaky bucket. The state and federal government will collect taxes, for example. Those are holes that can’t be fixed. The idea of the leaky bucket illustrates the importance of money flow through a community. The more holes in the bucket, the more frequently the community needs to refill the bucket (bring in ...
