Estimated read time: 9 minutes Often I read a story that was touching and memorable at the time and I always hope for a sequel.  More often than not, the story is written when it's news or is good enough to earn a writer wannabe (or a drunk redneck) fifty bucks, but the author rarely revisits the story later.  I might not think about the story until weeks, months, and sometimes years afterwards when I experience or read something that brings that story to mind.  I'm left hanging with the empty thought, "Whatever happened to...." Talk show hosts, both radio and TV, are notorious for leaving us hanging.  They feign their outrage of the day today and move on to other topics tomorrow as if the outrage yesterday was nothing at all.  They'll revive the outrage or topic when other players are involved, but the listener or viewer is left with that empty thought, "Whatever happened to...." Or maybe it's just me.  I have a long memory.  I don't car...

Estimated read time: 10 minutes I don't recall exactly how I learned about the Delmar Weather Guys.  In fact, I don't know if the three high school students who built and maintained the Delmar_Weather social media platforms referred to themselves as the Delmar Weather Guys, but it was a nickname I adopted for them whenever I shared their predictions on my social media platforms. Estimated read time: 8 minutes The all too common refrain being passed off as truth is young people are too busy glued to their cell phones taking selfies, texting, sexting, keeping up with the Kardashians, or playing games to be to be cognizant of the real life all around them.  I used to ascribe to that view of young people, but young people are teaching me a thing or two.  Take Nathan as an example. Ok, Nathan might not be his real name.  I'm terrible remembering names.  His Sound Cloud account shows his name is Nick Lopez so maybe I at least got the "N" in his name right.  Since his handle on his Sound Cloud account refers to him as Icky_Sheikh and I'm pretty sure I heard him refer to himself as Icky in a couple of his songs, for the rest of this article I'll play it safe and refer to him as Icky. Christmas is over and somehow we all survived the shopping, family visits, and Grandma's homemade fruitcake.   Miracles of all miracles, though, we survived the incessant and repetitive playing of Christmas carols everywhere we went or on any radio dial we pushed.   Even our childhood favorite carols began to wear thin by the time Christmas Day arrived. Today, I got a late Christmas present from a friend in a political group I sometimes play around in.   He shared his favorite Christmas carol recorded in 1960 by a popular British entertainer, Roy Castle.   If you're like me, you're probably thinking, "Who the heck is Roy Castle?   Never heard of him." Since Monday, many weather forecasters have been hyping the "historic storm" that will "paralyze many cities."   It sounds much like the rhetoric for the Blizzard of 2015.   It was certainly a "historical storm" - for Boston.   For us here in Maryland, it barely dusted the ground despite the predictions of "possible record" snowfalls predicted even up to about twelve hours before the expected start of the storm. Our local talk show host on WXDE 105.9 Talk Radio (and honorary drunk redneck ), Susan Monday, had plans to cross the Bay Bridge to spend the weekend in Baltimore, but now wants to know if she should heed the hype and stay home or ignore it and go. If you browse the radio talk show dial up and down or surf the political social media sites, one common refrain heard over and over is one of political correctness.  "Problem today is you can't speak your mind without offending someone." Think the final statement is politically correct?  Actually, the whole rewrite is politically incorrect. For some younger people - which is about all of the millennials - and some older people -   which is about all the far right conservatives - the world began the day they were born or about twenty-five years ago.   Political correctness is a problem created today because decades of liberal policies brainwashed our parents' and grandparents' generations to be polite and respectful.  That's just plain wrong and nothing is getting done to move the current generation forward because of all this politeness.  "Speak your mind, no matter how much the truth hurts" is the popular mantra of the far right.   ...

Ahh, to be young again.   The exuberance.   The idealism.   Seems like just yesterday, you were ready to set the world on fire.   Today - thirty years, where did they go?   Aches, pain, and general tiredness that comes with aging has tempered your youthful exuberance.   Cynicism - sometimes (ok, often times) confused with wisdom - has corroded your idealism.   The spark that would've set the world on fire fizzled out decades ago.   In short: life got in the way and what was once important grew trivial as the years passed. But there's still the legacy you will leave behind to consider.   Now that's a tricky word - legacy.   What is it? Most people don't think about their legacy until they are old and know they only have a few years left on this earth.   Unless one has a lot of money to buy a charitable foundation in their name, it's too late to build your legacy.   You built your legacy all through your life...
