A No Vote Is a Show of No Confidence

Politics, over the last ten years, has become a sport of republicans versus democrats.  The players are pumped up on viagra and estrogen (and probably a lot of pain killers) to fool themselves into believing they have the edge they had over forty years ago when they played real sports drug free.  For those of us on the sidelines watching the game, we've become bored and frustrated.  Steroids don't work in young people's sports; why do old people think their steroids will work for their game?

Governor Hogan thinks the old people's steroids will up his game.   His latest television ad has him standing behind a podium or onstage or somewhere talking about another candidate.  He invoked the "she sided with Democrats...." and similar rhetoric.

The implication of the ad is that anyone who sides with a Democrat on any issue is a bad person because, by inference, Democrats are bad people.  In one sentence, Hogan ridiculed 55% of Maryland registered voters.  He sent a message to Annapolis that all the Democrats elected to represent Maryland aren't worth listening to much less dealing with.  He holds contempt for anyone not Republican.

That's two strikes against him.  The first strike was his willingness to ignore the Critical Bay Habitat law and grant an exemption for New Jersey developers to build on Kent Island, a critical Bay habitat wetland, because somehow a 562 acre farm pollutes the Bay more than a 1,000 unit senior center and 2,500 single family home development would.  Oh, and let's all pretend Hogan's financial connections to the New Jersey developer had nothing to do with the decision to pave over Kent Island.

His second strike is his campaign tactic ripped right from the pages of Trump's playbook.   As Trump bops around the country in his cheerleading miniskirt, Hogan has followed suit.  "Republicans good, Democrats bad," they grunt.

Wanna know how easy it is to tee off people?  Fat boy needs to lose this election.   Maryland tax payers shouldn't be footing Hogan's gluttonous food bill and the health costs associated with eating too much.   Obesity is, after all, the second biggest cause of preventable deaths, being one step behind smoking.   If Hogan can't run an effective diet for himself, how the Hell can he run effective programs for the state?

See?  It's easy to tee people off.  Any grade-schooler can do it.

So no vote for Hogan from me, huh?

Nope, no vote from me.

Now before all you old tea party republicans start calling me a snowflake, Ben Jealous doesn't get my vote, either.  It's obvious he knows nothing about the Eastern Shore other than it's that piece of land that connects the Bay Bridge to Ocean City.  He admitted he didn't know squat about the Eastern Shore.  If he doesn't know anything about the Eastern Shore, I have to wonder if he knows the Appalachian Mountains are part of Maryland.

Jealous isn't good for Maryland.  Maybe Baltimore, but not Maryland.  He needs to take some time and learn about the state he calls home.

Trump got the cheerleading all wrong. Where's
the miniskirt?  Hillary stole it?
Hogan, on the other hand, is plain useless.  If he wants to join Trump's cheerleading team for republicans, perhaps he should invest in a miniskirt and start practicing.

When I vote - and I will (skeered?) - the governor position I will leave blank. Let's face it.  If there are third party candidates (there are two, but do you care?) they won't win.  But the fact that I showed up at the polls, made sure Jay L. Newcomb lost my vote, made sure Christopher Adams got my vote, and showed no faith in any governor candidate by not voting for one will speak volumes to the number crunchers.

Ok, one blank ballot for governor won't get anyone's attention.  But don't forget - if any office lists candidates you don't know or know but has no appeal to you, you do have the option not to vote for that office.  By leaving the option blank, you're telling the number crunchers, "Give me better choices next time."

Anyway, yeah, I hope Hogan wins, but I don't think it matters.  Regardless of who is elected governor, we'll have the opportunity to get it right in 2022.  In the meantime, a no vote shows the governor-elect a no confidence vote, which weakens his (or hers, if we had a woman running this election) ability to bully the State House to pass his agenda.

So now you got it.   I'm not voting for any governor candidate.  I want the governor-elect to know I have no confidence in his abilities.  It might humble him and force him to do a better job.
